BCHA's Unity House are celebrating helping over 80 homeless people since they opened in summer 2009.
Unity House provides accommodation with high levels of support for 15 people (10 adults and 5 young people) who are homeless. Unity House also provides six units of move-on accommodation where residents receive lower levels of support to help them prepare to move into independent accommodation.
Unity House not only provides some of Wiltshire's most vulnerable people with somewhere safe to sleep, the service also focuses on enabling clients to move forward with their lives so as they can ultimately live as independently as possible.
Support workers work closely with each individual to help address the complex issues that can cause homelessness and identify the support they need to move forward with their life, signposting them to the different services which can provide this support. For example, education and training providers so as the residents can develop desirable skills, helping them to access employment.
On-site activities are arranged to build residents confidence, self-esteem and life skills. For example, IT lessons and cookery classes are regularly held.
Unity House are keen to hear from anyone who would like to volunteer. People will have the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities from admin work to client activities and the general daily life of the project. If anyone is interested in volunteering, then call 01202 410500.
