What support is there for children?

Domestic violence and abuse affects children too. To help, a child support worker works at our refuges. They work with children who have experienced domestic violence through one-to-one sessions, allowing children to talk through their past and current experiences with someone who is not directly involved with their situation.

Our child support workers also organises group activities with children including children’s clubs and family activities. We also offer specialised support and advice to parents/ carers to help children deal with their experiences.

If you're living in a violent or abusive relationship and you want advice, information, support or accommodation, ring one of the BCHA 24 hour helplines:

  • Bournemouth: 01202 547755
  • Poole: 01202 748488
  • North Dorset: 01747 858555

Or you can ring the National Domestic Violence Helpline run by Women's Aid - 0808 2000 247.

Remember, in an emergency - dial 999 for the police
