BCHA's New Leaf Allotment is a 1.2 acre horticultural site based at the centre of Throop in Bournemouth, Dorset. New Leaf offers opportunities for all to come and learn and volunteer together, on a project at the centre of its community.

The New Leaf site has:

  • a 40 tree apple orchard
  • more than 8 large plots for vegetable growth
  • an area dedicated to fruit
  • polytunnels for propagation

Supported by the Skills Funding Agency through the Adult and Community Learning Fund, New Leaf are developing and delivering a range of horticultural courses for local residents, charitable groups and schools to access and develop their knowledge.

Opportunities include:

  • Learning how to grow your own at home
  • Plant identification and growing cycles
  • Polytunnel growth
  • Composting
  • Orchard Maintenance
  • And much much more!

New Leaf has a healthy band of volunteers who assist Miles (Site Coordinator) throughout the week. Volunteers are involved in maintaining th site and helping to educate our learners about the benefits of physical activity and eating healthy locally grown produce!

Plans are afoot to increase vegetable growth through 2012 and allow local residents to purchase discounted produce.
