Martin made the transition from the private sector into the third sector in April 2000. He was Director of Corporate Services at BCHA, before becoming Chief Executive in January 2007.
At BCHA, Martin has enjoyed working in a fast-growing and diverse environment. He has drawn on his considerable previous experience of managing change and building relationships with external bodies. Working with colleagues across the organisation, Martin is helping BCHA to achieve our growing ambitions.
Martin established BCHA’s social enterprise, Sequal Solutions (now The New Leaf Company), to provide a range of services for the third sector.
Director of Finance & Corporate Services
Martin joined BCHA in November 2016 with Director responsibility for Finance, IT, HR, Governance & Strategy and brings over 25 years’ experience as a finance professional in the housing sector.
He is a chartered accountant with an early career with KPMG where he gained wide financial and commercial experience across a variety of private and public sectors. He specialised in housing associations becoming the firm’s lead manager on the south coast.
Before joining BCHA Martin spent 22 years at Spectrum Housing Group where, as Group Finance Director, he oversaw significant business growth and change taking private finance facilities to over £500m.
Martin has a collaborative and customer focussed management style with a passion for delivering social purpose through a commercial approach.
Director of Homelessness, Health & Wellbeing
Caroline has significant experience working in a variety of leadership roles in both the private and public sector focusing predominantly on social, community and wellbeing services.
Caroline has spent the last 3 years working as a senior manager in local government in Australia, where she drove various social innovation initiatives, including the development of a Social Enterprise Strategy and Hub. Prior to this, Caroline worked in the Midlands, managing Early Intervention Services from pre-birth upwards.
Caroline is a qualified Psychotherapist and has a Masters in Education, with a specialism in the Leadership of Community Services; she is also a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management.
Director of Change, Transformation & Growth
Laura is an experienced leader having worked on change and transformation in a number of sectors and organisations. Her diverse experience includes working for the UK Government in Whitehall; establishing a new organisation to democratise learning and knowledge; leading a communications agency for unheard marginalised communities; and overseas humanitarian deployments, such as during the response to the Ebola outbreak in Liberia.
Laura is passionate about helping organisations to realise the expertise that lies in lived experience and the importance of including customers, or people, in the design, development and implementation of services.
Director of Customer, Homes & Tenancy
Hony joined BCHA in September 2020 after working as an Interim Director of Customer Services at Housing for Women. Hony has 24 years’ experience in the housing sector and has previously worked at BCHA as an Interim Assistant Director. She has a keen interest in customer engagement and is passionate about ensuring customers’ voices are placed at the heart of decision-making processes.
Hony has a Masters’ degree in Bio-Chemistry, then studied for an MA in Housing Law and Policy and later completed an MBA. She is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Housing and The Institute of Leadership and Management.
Hony is a Board member of Elden Housing Association, Epsom and Ewell Citizens Advice and Women in Social Housing (WISH).
Head of Governance & Strategy
Phil Baker is a qualified housing professional with nearly thirty years’ experience in social housing, in both local authority and housing associations.
Phil has been with BCHA for nearly 18 years in variety of corporate roles and as Head of Governance & Strategy, he has oversight of governance, risk and business assurance. Phil has also been Company Secretary of BCHA and its subsidiaries (excluding New Leaf) since 2007.
Interim Director of Change, Transformation & Growth
Graeme has joined BCHA as the Interim Director for the next 6-9 months.
Graeme brings with him decades of experience and is committed to BCHA’s vision of ending homelessness.
Graeme has spent 30 years in industry using electronics and software to solve problems in the field of security. His experience spans start-ups and multi-national organisations most recently as Global Head of Research and Development for a major technology group.
