Meet our Chief Executive Martin Hancock, and our Senior Leadership…

The Senior Leadership Team at BCHA comprises of the Chief Executive, the Director of Housing and Support and the Director of Finance and Corporate Resources.

As Chief Executive, Martin Hancock heads up the BCHA family.

Martin made the transition from the private sector into the third sector in April 2000. He was Director of Corporate Services at BCHA, before becoming Chief Executive in January 2007.

At BCHA, Martin has enjoyed working in a fast-growing and diverse environment. He has drawn on his considerable previous experience of managing change and building relationships with external bodies. Working with colleagues across the organisation, Martin is helping BCHA to achieve our growing ambitions.

Martin established BCHA’s social enterprise, Sequal Solutions (now The New Leaf Company), to provide a range of services for the third sector.

Brian Swann is Director of Housing and Support at BCHA.


Brian joined BCHA in 1996 as manager of Lansdowne Gardens, which was then a direct access hostel. He later took responsibility for all supported provision, and helped to establish our learning, floating support and community support services. 

Brian is now our Director of Housing and Support, with overall responsibility for services for: children, families and young people; and homelessness, substance misuse and ex-offender services. 

Before joining BCHA, Brian worked for the NHS, including at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge – a major teaching hospital with over 1,200 bed spaces. 

Brian is passionate about social issues, current affairs and organisations that work with disadvantaged people. He also retains a strong interest in all sports.

Assistant Director of Housing and Customer Experience

Stacey Northover joined BCHA in August 2015 as Assistant Director of Housing and Customer Experience, having amassed 16 years of experience as a housing professional working across the South West of England, delivering services in tenancy management and customer experience.


Martin Lucas, Director of Finance and Corporate Resources

Martin joined BCHA in November 2016 with Director responsibility for Finance & Corporate Services and brings over 25 years’ experience as a finance professional in the housing sector. 

He is a chartered accountant with an early career with KPMG where he gained wide financial and commercial experience across a variety of private and public sectors.  He specialised in housing associations becoming the firm’s lead manager on the south coast.

Martin joined Western Challenge Housing Association as Finance Manager in December 1994 and was promoted to Finance Director in 1999.  He was appointed as Group Finance Director on the creation of the Spectrum Housing Group in July 2007.  He acted as secretary to the Group Audit & Risk Committee and was a member of the Treasury Committee with responsibility for managing private finance facilities of over £500m.  During his time at Spectrum and its predecessor organisations he oversaw the business grow from £11m turnover and 2,500 homes in 1994 to £119m turnover and 18,000 homes in 2016.

Martin has a collaborative and customer focussed management style with a passion for delivering social purpose through a commercial approach.
