We are committed to providing equal opportunities for all. We believe that employing people from different backgrounds with a range of perspectives and experiences helps us to deliver high quality services to all of our residents. We employ our staff based on their abilities and potential, regardless of gender, ethnic or national origin, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief, marital or civil partnership status, or pregnancy, maternity or paternity status.

We want to ensure that the principles of equality and diversity are at the core of our work and this is underpinned by our corporate values. To this end, we include equalities training as part of our induction programme for all new employees.

Disability Confident scheme -  supporting disabled applicants

We positively encourage disabled applicants to apply for our jobs and we are proud to have been granted the `Disability Confident ‘symbol by Jobcentre Plus. This means that we have agreed to take action to meet five commitments regarding the employment, retention, training and career development of disabled employees. It is represented by the two ticks disability symbol that participating organisations are authorised to display.

Under the two ticks scheme, we have agreed to take action on these five commitments:

  • to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and consider them on their abilities.

    • to ensure there is a mechanism in place to discuss, at any time, but at least once a year, with disabled employees what can be done to make sure they can develop and use their abilities.

    • to make every effort if employees become disabled to make sure they stay in employment.

    • to take action to ensure that all employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness needed to make these commitments work.

    • each year to review the five commitments and what has been achieved, plan ways to improve on them and let employees and Jobcentre Plus know about progress and future plans.
