BCHA is delighted to announce that the much-anticipated redevelopment of the former Marchesi House site in Weymouth is moving forward, with leading regional builder C G Fry & Son Ltd confirmed to begin construction works this autumn.
The project will deliver 26 brand-new affordable homes at Poplar Close, including 21 for social rent and 5 available through shared ownership, all of which will be prioritised for people on the local housing register with strong connections to the area.
Construction activity is set to re-start on-site the week commencing 20th October, with full build operations scheduled to commence from 27th October 2025. Completion is targeted for March 2027, bringing high-quality, affordable homes to families and individuals in need in just 18 months.
We are incredibly pleased to see this important development moving to the next stage. Affordable housing is in high demand in the area, and this scheme reflects BCHA’s commitment to creating affordable homes and communities.
Planning approval for the development was granted by Dorset Council on 21st August 2025. The homes will be delivered with a strong focus on community wellbeing, sustainability and quality, with CG Fry managing the full construction process as the Principal Contractor.
BCHA and CG Fry are writing to the local community affected by the building work with more detail and assurance that every effort will be made to minimise disruption during the construction phase with a strict timing schedule.
A dedicated site information board will be installed to keep neighbours updated and provide direct contact details for the site manager to ensure any concerns are addressed promptly and respectfully.
“We understand that construction projects can impact nearby residents, and we are committed to maintaining good relationships with the local community throughout the build,” said Andy Durrant, Construction Manager at CG Fry & Son.
This development marks a significant step forward in addressing the growing need for affordable housing in Weymouth, and both BCHA and CG Fry are proud to be part of a partnership that will make a lasting difference for local people.
