BCHA’s Mental Health Floating Support Service have been awarded Team of the Year in the prestigious Housing Heroes Awards 2023. This recognition highlights the team's exceptional dedication and their transformative work in the lives of individuals facing mental health challenges.
The Mental Health Floating Support Team deliver personalised, trauma-informed support to over 300 adults each year with a diagnosed mental health condition, who are experiencing difficulty sustaining their tenancy or living independently.
The passionate team go above and beyond to transform lives and prevent homelessness for a section of our community who are often stigmatised, isolated and misjudged.
Their unwavering compassion and patience help our customers find their place in the community to live a safe, happy and healthy life on their own terms.
BCHA, a major provider of diverse housing, support, learning and employability services for socially-excluded people across the South West, from Bournemouth to Plymouth, is proud to have its Mental Health Floating Support Team acknowledged for their outstanding contributions.
Amy Bower, Business Manager for the Mental Health Floating Support Team said: "Winning Team of the Year for the Housing Hero Awards, is testament to the dedication, passion and strong collaborative work the Mental Health Floating Support Team do.
With around 150 customers to support monthly they strive to achieve the best outcomes for all customers. Helping them to improve their mental health, develop skills and independence to maintain their tenancies and reduce homelessness. Following a psychologically informed approach the team tailor the support to suit each individual’s needs.

BCHA’s CEO, Lorraine Mealings, was delighted to attend the ceremony and accept the Team of the Year award on behalf of the Mental Health Floating Support Team.
She said: “Our Mental Health Floating Support Team has achieved outstanding outcomes over the past year, offering people who are living in unsafe accommodation, or may be at risk of losing their home, the chance to totally reimagine their future.
This recognition of their commitment to championing the rights and needs of our customers is testament to the strength of this team and the people who make change possible.”
In addition to this award, BCHA was also nominated for Recruitment Campaign of the Year. This nomination highlights the organisation’s commitment to inclusion by involving customers in their selection processes.
Inside Housing’s Housing Heroes Awards took place last month in Manchester at the opening ceremony for Europe’s largest Housing Festival.
