BCHA are excited to announce the first of many major upgrades to our properties, that will have a significant impact not only on our customers, but also for the environment. BCHA applied for the funding from the government’s Energy Compilation Obligation (ECO4) scheme, which has enabled us to install a state-of-the-art air source heat pump along with solar panels to a property that previously had a lower Energy Performance Certificate rating (EPC). This customer’s home now has a dramatically improved EPC rating of ‘B - a property that is highly energy efficient and has a low environmental impact’.

BCHA’s commitment to improving the energy efficiency of our homes, and meeting the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES), has also lowered our residents’ energy bills, due to the solar panels being an effective source of electricity for the heat pump.

Michael Powell, Senior Surveyor at BCHA, says “It is really important for us here at BCHA to have properties that have high energy performance, both to reduce energy bills for our customers and to ensure all customers have safe, warm and efficient homes. Making a tangible difference to both the environment and our customers’ energy bills is something we are proud to have been able to achieve. This is the first in hopefully many retrofit upgrades we hope to complete in the coming years, and we look forward to improving our customers’ homes in every way we can.”

In the year ahead, BCHA are identifying which properties could benefit from similar renovations available through the ECO4 grant. We are determined to continue with upgrades to our housing, looking toward a greener future and providing our customers with warm and safe homes.
