Louise started with BCHA in January of 2026, following the Housing Transformation Programme to streamline how BCHA put customers at the heart of what we do.

“As the Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Specialist for BCHA, I cover our entire geography, covering from BCP to Plymouth. A big part of my role is coaching and teaching staff about ASB: what it is, how to deal with it, about how and why we need to give warnings to customers when we need to. I support the Housing Officers if they feel they need support, whether this is with issuing a warning or visiting a community to observe if ASB is taking place.”

“There can be misconceptions about what ASB is, so being able to support the teams in establishing what does or doesn’t fall under the term can be a learning curve. A lot of times, people think ASB is just criminal activity, like graffiti or drug misuse, but in reality it is so much more than that. Little actions can become huge issues for our customers, so having the knowledge to know what we can and can’t assist with is imperative, which is why ASB Awareness Week is so important.”

“I am the only ASB Specialist at BCHA, but I work closely with the Housing Team as a whole.  Every day is different and everyone's supportive - everyone's a team and works together. It's just brilliant and I absolutely love it. As a people person, interacting with colleagues and customers is one of my favourite parts of the job.”

“When I first started at BCHA, I shadowed the Housing Officers to see what they did and how they were currently dealing with ASB. During this time I met victims of ASB, offering both them and the Housing Officer’s support. Another thing I love is the support at BCHA: there’s always someone to speak to, whether that’s a colleague or myself, and someone always there to help if I get stuck! There’s a lot of communication that goes on which is so important for teams to feel safe and secure.”

“No two days are the same....recently, I witnessed an incident with a non-customer who had overdosed outside a BCHA property. The whole team worked together and helped the person, administering CPR to help, and it really made me stop and recognise that this is a team that I want to be a part of. Everyone gets on and puts the work in, and it was a really proud moment to see everyone work to save the gentleman. He survived thanks to the team and was taken to hospital.”

“I get a lot of validation from seeing ASB dealt with effectively. It involves a lot of partnership working, sometimes with the police, and knowing we’re strengthening those relationships across the community is lovely. It’s also so gratifying when the colleagues have done a good job with ASB – sometimes they need a bit of validation themselves and reassurance that they’ve done everything right – seeing them smile and feeling like they’ve helped their customers is heartwarming. There are of course difficult conversations that we have-to-have: we must ask perpetrators to stop and sometimes issue warnings or evictions. Speaking to the victims however and acknowledging their struggle and their relief from a solution makes it worth it.”

“The BCHA values are so important to me – when I was researching the role before applying, I was thinking “Why didn’t I know about this place sooner?”. BCHA would have been the perfect place for me to start my career – all the people are like-minded and value the same things I do in my professional and personal life.”

“Looking to the future, I want all BCHA customers and staff to understand exactly what ASB is. It can cause huge issues, not just for individuals but for entire communities and this can have a big impact on mental health. I’d love to see a reduction in ASB across the region too, but being able to support customers and give advice that can help in the meantime makes me feel like I am making a difference.”
