On Thursday 18th December, the Liberty Project team held a fundraising quiz at The Factory in Poole, raising funds to go towards refurbishing the children’s playroom at BCHA’s safehouse accommodation. The event raised an impressive £1,427, with all proceeds going directly towards supporting victims and survivors of modern slavery.
2025 marks 10 years since the Modern Slavery Act was introduced, and the event aimed to recognise the positive impact the act has had, and the work completed in the last year to improve support to survivors longer term. The evening bought colleagues and supporters together for an evening of learning, entertainment and generosity. More than 70 attendees were present, all united by a shared goal of ending modern slavery.
Kit, Senior Practitioner at the University Retreat, wrote and hosted the 5-round quiz, with categories split by informative discussions about the realities and impacts of modern-day slavery from the Liberty Project team. This included a case study read by Grace, Lead Service Co-Ordinator for the Liberty Project, and some statistics pulled together by Oyewale, Data Insights Analyst for the scheme.
Poppy, Business Manager for BCHA’s Modern Slavery & Domestic Abuse Services, said: “We are delighted at how generous our attendees were at our quiz night. The fundraising night came at a perfect time, raising funds and awareness for victims and survivors of modern slavery in recognition of 10 years of the UK’s Modern Day Slavery Act.”
She added: “All proceeds are going towards refurbishing the children’s playroom at the accommodation for survivors of modern slavery. Thanks to the generosity of our attendees, we will also be able to provide the children at the Liberty Project with a Christmas present from their Christmas wish list.”
Thanks to a grant from Tela Technology, local business New Forest Pizza Co was on hand to make delicious stone-baked pizzas, creating an environment that encouraged participation, networking and conversation.
Alongside the quiz, there was a very popular raffle and a much-loved horse racing game which made sure there was something for everyone to enjoy.
The raffle prizes were very generously donated by local businesses across the BCP area. This included a spa day voucher from The Nici Hotel, a hamper from Highcliffe Hampers and tickets for the Tides Wellness Club, which were all in high demand with 250 raffle tickets being sold throughout the evening!
Alder Hills Academics outperformed their rivals – scoring 100% on the quiz - to claim the Liberty Quiz Trophy and well-earned bragging rights.
For those who were unable to attend but would still like to show their support, donations can be made via the Liberty Project fundraising link. Every contribution helps to improve facilities and provide meaningful support for survivors of modern slavery.
