After careful consideration and thorough review, BCHA and Recoop have approved a decision to proceed to demerge Recoop from BCHA. The planned demerger will take place by 31 March 2025, marking an exciting new chapter for Recoop.

Lorraine Mealings, BCHA CEO said “While we will be sad to see Recoop leave the BCHA family, as a really important subsidiary within the Group structure, this move supports Recoop in becoming an independent organisation, enabling it to continue its important work and grow into the future. The BCHA Group has supported Recoop over the last few years and remains committed to supporting the demerger process to ensure a smooth transition, working closely with the Recoop team, over the coming months.

We believe this is a positive step forward for Recoop and one that will allow the team to build on their excellent work while continuing to focus on their mission. Both BCHA and Recoop remain aligned in our goals, and we look forward to collaborating during this transition.”

Kerryn Wotton, Recoop Chair said “This is an exciting juncture for Recoop as the charity continues to grow and secure longer term contracts, in the Justice arena. The security and corporate support provided whilst part of the BCHA Group, provided the foundation for the success and growth that Recoop has enjoyed in recent years. Recoop has matured as a charity, secured financial stability, and established itself as a specialist, well-respected charity in the sector. Now is the time for Recoop to look at new opportunities that independence will provide as we plan for the future and our next chapter.”

Chris Nicholson, BCHA Chair added “We are pleased to have assisted Recoop on their journey over the last few years and are really looking forward to seeing the exciting next phase of their work as an independent stand-alone charity. They have established themselves as experts in the sector and we wish them every success – I am sure they will continue to grow and do great work.”

Key Points on the Demerger Process:

  • The demerger is targeted for completion by 31 March 2025, with some additional support from BCHA for budget and financial processes continuing beyond this date to close down the accounts.
  • Recoop will take on independent responsibility for its operations, finances, and governance after this time as a stand-alone company.
  • There will be monthly project meetings over the next few months to track progress, and we’ll continue to monitor risks, address any issues that arise, and send up-to-date communications out as necessary.
