Pattern Changing is an educational course for women who are, or have been, in an abusive relationship.
How will the course help me?
The course will help you to understand how domestic abuse impacts your life, recognise negative patterns of behaviour by understanding the power and control that can occur in abusive relationships and enable you to start to make more positive life choices.
The areas covered by the course are:
- Rights and the impact of abuse
- Family roles and abuse: why is it so hard to leave?
- The dysfunctional childhood legacy
- Boundaries and goodbye to old patterns
- About feelings: grief, fear, guilt and anger
- Boundary setting
- Using assertiveness skills
- Setting realistic goals
- New patterns of decision making
- Healthy relationships
- Changed patterns, endings and beginnings
Who can attend Pattern Changing?
Poole Domestic Abuse Project run Pattern Changing programmes across the Borough of Poole. Any woman aged 16 and over who has been subjected to any form of domestic abuse and has a local connection to Poole can sign up to the course.
Our Breakthru service also runs Pattern Changing programmes across Dorset. Any woman aged 16 and over who has been subjected to any form of domestic abuse and lives in Dorset, can sign up to our Breakthru Pattern Changing course.
How can I be referred to Pattern Changing?
You can refer yourself to our Pattern Changing courses, alternatively an agency you may be working with such as the police, a health worker, GP or social worker can refer you.
