We are proud to be a values led, person centred organsiation. Our model of change recognises that everyone has a different perspective on the world and that we each need different inputs in order to thrive. This is reflected in our Investors in People Award which was most recently updated in 2022.

We have a diverse range of roles on offer for individuals who share our values and want to contribute to achieving our mission.

BCHA is a forward thinking, dynamic and vibrant place to work. We employ great people who are committed to our values and want to achieve the best outcomes for those most in need of our services to ‘find a way forward’.

We look for enthusiastic, passionate, caring people who thrive on delivering effective services and going the extra mile.  In exchange for your commitment, we will make sure you get the rewards, training and benefits you deserve.  Our aim is to create a professional environment in which you can thrive: we want you to be able to be your best self in the workplace.

Our success depends on us employing the right people with the right attitude: people who are committed to our values and working hard together to achieve positive outcomes. We are driven by our values in all aspects of our organisation. These will be tested as part of the recruitment process and are the backbone for our management processes.

  • Personal integrity
  • The importance of every individual
  • Outstanding service to people
  • The importance of working together
  • Professional competence

Learning and Development

We pride ourselves on being a learning organisation and are proactive in helping employees to develop their skills, knowledge, behaviours and work towards a variety of professional qualifications. It is critical that colleagues have the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the workplace. We invest significantly during the first 6 months with BCHA and then ensure that key training is repeated on an annual basis.

On top of that we will work with individual staff to develop their own learning pathways - this can include qualifications, wellbeing support packages, coaching or mentoring, and peer networking. We support colleagues to get involved in local, regional and national forums to share and learn from others and keep up-to-date on the latest best practice.

Flexibility and Agility

Wherever possible we offer flexibility and hybrid working opportunities. Our focus is to provide a working environment that enables individuals to bring their best selves to their role, and we recognise that we all have different commitments outside of work. Please note that some of our roles require specific working patterns or locations.

We are constantly trying to improve. This can mean undergoing transformation programmes, like our current investment in the digital provision and training available to all colleagues. It can also mean responding to recent legislation, such as the new carers leave allowance or the new Employee Relations Bill.

Staff receive an additional day off on their work anniversary - a way for us to thank our colleagues for their commitment and dedication.

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

We offer an inclusive workplace, where everyone is welcome and where our staff are comfortable bringing their whole selves to work.  We understand that colleagues have other responsibilities outside of work, and we do our best to provide you the opportunity to work in a way that enables you to do both.  The BCHA ED&I Forum is leading us forward on our journey to be more inclusive, equitable and celebrate our diversity.  And it's also the duty of every one of us to continually learn and improve how we communicate, engage and support one another.

We are registered as a Disability Confident Committed Employer by the Job Centre and have signed the Youth Employment Charter

Opportunities to Get Involved

There are many opportunities to get involved in organisation wide initiatives at BCHA. These are voluntary and give colleagues a chance to share their personal passions. For instance, we have:

  • A Green Champions Network
  • The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Forum
  • The Young Peoples Network
  • The Bchangemakers Organising Committee (see below)
  • The Festival of Wellbeing Committee
  • Menopause Group

There are opportunities to get involved in customer engagement activities including running womens or mens groups, outings, growing vegetables or fruit in our garden spaces, the urban bike project, and many others.

As well as providing our employees with an opportunity to feel a sense of purpose in working towards ending homelessness, we also provide a range of tangible benefits to say `thank you’ and go some way in helping recognise the brilliant work our employees do each day. For more details, read our Benefits Policy.

Annual Bchangemakers Awards

BCHA is full of fantastic colleagues who are passionate about supporting people. Our annual Bchangemakers Awards give us the chance to come together to celebrate our wonderful colleagues and volunteers, shining a light on those people that go the extra mile to make a difference at BCHA. We have ten awards that give us the opportunity to recognise everyone from the 'Noble Newcomer' to the 'Champion of Inclusion' to the 'Motivational Leader', 'the Shining Star' and of course, 'the Tremendous Team'. It's a joyful day of celebrations and spending time together.

We have been employing apprentices across our services for years. We support apprentices in a range of roles which have in the past included business admin, electrical, paintor and decorators and HR.

We also see apprenticeships as an opportunity to help support colleagues already working for BCHA to develop further.  We have successfully utilised the apprenticeship levy to fund and support team members in completing their Level 5 Manager in Adult Care and Level 5 Operation and Department Manager qualification.
